The Calapooia is a river named after the the Kalapuya tribe of native americans from the Willamette Valley. The Calapooia runs 72 miles and eventually converges with the Willamette River. We spent a lovely afternoon on a stretch of the river that is perfectly situated with deep pools for swimming, shallow pools for catching crayfish, and lots of lovely backdrop for a dreamy Oregon ambiance. Our friends Tracy, Jon, and Molly met us at this spot (just as we did last year at this time) and we all had a grand time together.
You can barely make out a little patch of blue (our towels) midway down the right bank of the river.
Gabe is swimming. You can just see his head out of the water on the left. The rest of us are in various stages of swimming or almost swimming.
Navelle got in and did a few splash kicks back and forth. Cold but fun!
Arthur was excited about the idea of swimming.
Navelle and Molly spent a lot of time catching and examining crayfish.
In this pool we could see waterboatmen and whirligigs. neat!
closer inspection
