Navelle, almost three

Navelle will turn three at the end of the month.  Before things get very busy here with Baby Brother, I wanted to take a minute to create a more extensive post about Navelle.

Our photograph friend, Tina Buescher, took these beautiful photos of Navelle and her cousin Evelyn in late April. The pictures do such a lovely job of capturing Navelle's happy, confident, somewhat mischievous spirit.

At almost-three, Navelle continues to amaze us, outwit us, and bring us great joy.  She's very cheerful and energetic and very social.  She's always on the move and rarely sits for more than a few moments. She likes to make up her own silly songs and funny words. She continues to be interested in space exploration and astronauts. She can name the planets and she regularly travels to them on the couch-rocketship as she's wearing her bubble helmet.  Her most recent interests have been:

1. Pirates. associated new vocabulary includes: eye patches, pegleg, whiskey, buccaneer, Jolly Roger.

2. The body's skeleton. she's interested in the mechanics of having a skeleton and that it moves when she moves.

The other day, Navelle was sitting in the carseat, squirming around. She proclaimed, "when I move my head, my head bone moves."  I asked if she knew what her head bone was called and she replied, with great satisfaction, "the Jolly Roger!"

Her vocabulary continues to develop at an astounding pace.  here are a few things she has said recently:
"Mama, you are a lion. Where are your very large canines?"
"Mama, do you have an epiglottis?"
"what is this creature slithering across the floor?"

She is in the beginning stages of spelling. Using magnetic letters, she can spell out her name on the refrigerator. She can also spell Mama, Dada, Moon, and NASA.

We're looking forward to the summer fun of the kiddie pool, blowing bubbles, riding bikes, and just generally playing outdoors.  more to follow...
