On the River

After crabbing on the coast, we headed into the Cascades and stayed along the beautiful Umpqua River.
This is view of the Umpqua River from our access point near the cabin. a lovely spot. the rapids, on the left, were very swift and the water very cold.

Gabe and Jim spotted many large fish in the deep pools. Navelle insisted on fishing for them in her own style, which meant jabbing the pole tip down into the water. Gabe tried his own, more traditional technique, casting and floating a fly. Neither method was successful.

Gabe and Navelle inspected tadpoles, snails, and water striders.
